The Dorchester's famous Grill is entering an exciting new era, with fresh faces at the helm and a link-up with Ronnie Scott's

One of Mayfair's most storied dining rooms has entered a new era under one of the capital's most experienced chefs. The Dorchester's acclaimed culinary director, Martyn Nail (who joined the hotel in 2022 following 36 years at Claridge's), is now at the helm of The Grill, alongside rising star head chef Jacob Keen-Downs (formerly of Gold in Notting Hill). The change follows the recent departure of executive chef Tom Booton, who became the youngest head chef in The Grill's history when he was appointed in 2019 aged 26.
Martyn and Jacob have unveiled a confident contemporary interpretation of the classic grill room; a place full of theatre and atmosphere to reflect its near century-old heritage. “This dining room has been making history for 95 years,” says Martyn. “Our aim is to celebrate the best of the grill tradition with exceptional cooking and a great environment. Whether our diners choose to snack at the counter, graze with friends or enjoy the full experience alone, we want the room to feel vibrant, relaxed and warm – the place to go and the place to return to.”
Guests can expect Bentley leather banquettes and striking chandeliers as trolleys glide between tables and chefs put the finishing touches to dishes at the open kitchen counter. The menu is a commitment to British produce and features classic dishes and shared small plates. Signatures include tableside tuna tartare, The Grill's seafood platter and a perfectly executed beef wellington. Breakfast includes the likes of omelette Arnold Bennett and Portland crab benedict, while Sundays feature a traditional roast and a dessert trolley.
In a nod to The Grill's Sherry Room, there is a sherry list and a daily “sherry moment” (6-7pm) – a ceremonious long pour served straight from the barrel – while cocktails include the Grill Adonis, London Calling and a frozen martini. Even more excitingly, the restaurant has launched a collaboration with the legendary Ronnie Scott's jazz club. An exclusive supper club series that pairs world-class live jazz with a three-course menu, dates include Natalie Williams on October 29, Jo Harrop on November 26 and Georgia CĂŠcile on December 9, priced ÂŁ145 per person.
