Alba London brings a taste of the Amalfi Coast to Knightsbridge

Words: Selma Day

ALBA (meaning ‘sunrise’ in Italian) offers a little slice of the Amalfi coast, reminiscent of the sights and sounds of this part of southern Italy. Set against a colour palette of lemon yellow and terracotta, with real citrus scenting the air, chefs work their magic from an open kitchen, while guests can choose fresh fish and seafood from a striking display.

The menu also features Amalfi staples such as risotto con gambero & saffron; and Sicilian carpaccio gambero rossi di mazara, but other regions of Italy are well represented, for example, there’s tagliatelle with white Alba truffle – a Piedmontese classic. Desserts include a panettone tiramisu, as well as a range of Italian gelato, served table-side for a typically Italian sense of theatre.

Wines are sourced predominantly from France and Italy, although wine connoisseurs can take a peek at the bespoke wine cellar where they will find a selection that includes a Château d’Yquem 6 litres Imperial 1991 – available by the glass.

The cocktail menu is equally impressive and takes guests on a tour Italy. Choose from the likes of the Amalfi Spritz; Royal Bellini; The Italian Riviera; and, of course, no Italian drinks list would be complete without a Negroni. ALBA’s take on the classic is the Salento Negroni (Tanqueray 10 Gin, 1757 Vermouth di Torino Rosso, Campari, Extra Virgin Olive Oil Fat Wash!
