Wednesday 21st April marks the United Nations’ World Creativity and Innovation Day. Eaton Square Senior School – the only co-educational independent secondary school in Mayfair – is renowned for instilling a lifelong love of creativity and innovation in all pupils.

Encompassing the all-important STEAM subjects, character development and the merits of a truly ‘London’ education, read on to discover how Eaton Square leads the way in developing these universal skills in every pupil: from entry to GCSE and future A Levels.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

It goes unsaid that STEAM subjects play a fundamental role in creativity and innovation. Although non-selective at entry, Eaton Square Senior School’s academic success in STEAM subjects (and beyond) is impressive.

With almost half of all GCSE’s awarded 7-9 (a comfortably higher rate than the national average), pupils are equipped to thrive in a broad range of subjects: not just Maths, Art, Chemistry, Physics and Biology; but also in the more specialist options of Computing and Additional Maths.

The School maximises exceptional facilities to bring these subjects to life. A practical approach to science is prioritised. In any given week, the state of the art science labs may see heart dissections, microscope work, hair-raising static electricity experiments, magnets, springs and other interactive forms of learning.

Termly initiatives to celebrate the Sciences (as well as engagement in nationwide campaigns such as British Science Week and the Intermediate Maths Challenge) are also popular features in the School calendar. The Head of Science is particularly passionate about encouraging women in STEAM.

The unique Art and Design Room features a magnificent glass domed roof – filling the room with light and the pupils with creativity.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Uniquely to Eaton Square, all pupils engage in the School’s in-house Leadership program. Creativity and innovation naturally play a key part.

Principal Sebastian Hepher says, “The programme reflects much of the modern world of work, with workshops structured to further develop pupils’ ability to negotiate, be creative and solve complex problems.”

Career talks are in abundance, frequently featuring entrepreneurs who have made their mark through
innovation. A current Year 10 pupil says, “The career talks are opening us up to ideas we never would have thought about.”

LOCATION

Inspiration frequently comes from our surroundings. Majestically positioned on Piccadilly and overlooking Green Park, Eaton Square Senior School provides the best of both worlds.

While the leafy green spaces of the Royal Parks facilitate a fresh approach to learning (outdoor art lessons are popular); the School’s prime central London location brings pupils within walking distance of the capital’s world-class centres of creativity and innovation on a daily basis – be it the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts or The Royal Institution: Science.

From the School’s staff to its setting, creativity and innovation are championed wherever possible – granting Eaton Square Senior School pupils every opportunity to thrive in our ever-changing world.
