Enjoy a fairy tale themed tea to celebrate the arrival of The Nutcracker in London.

Journey to the world of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker Prince as you sample a range of tea time delights at JW Marriott Grosvenor House  this festive season.

The Park Lane hotel is laying on a special Nutcracker Afternoon Tea in its Park Room to celebrate the arrival of the Christmas ballet favourite in London.

Dancers from The Royal Birmingham Ballet playing the characters of Clara and the Prince (pictured above) entertained guests at the launch of the tea which is on offer from now until January 1st.

See performances of The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall from Saturday December 28th to Tuesday 31st.

Imagine a world of sugar plum fairies in the land of sweets as you tuck into a limited edition tea.

Served in “three acts”, the food is inspired by characters from the ballet, with festive flavours and seasonal ingredients.

In Act 1, there are finger sandwiches. These include cucumber with garden mint butter and smoked Oakham chicken with tarragon and crème fraîche. There are also open brioche buns topped with fresh prawn and salmon or quails egg.

Then Act 2 comprises soft buttermilk scones, with a selection of six jams, including rhubarb & ginger, gooseberry and rose petal.

Finally, Act 3 is set in a land of sweet decadence. Each pastry represents a character from the Nutcracker.

Food with character

The Nutcracker itself is a hazelnut chocolate chip tart with a Devon cream ganache and chocolate nutcracker.

A light preserved plum cheesecake on a shortbread biscuit base with raspberry gel represents The Sugar Plum Fairy.

And The Angels are William pear cream, delicately coated in white chocolate which glistens in the light.

Grosvenor House executive chef Paul Bates says: “Grosvenor House has served Afternoon Tea since 1929. It has been an honour to curate a Nutcracker edition for the Park Room.

“Using wonderfully seasonal ingredients, it embodies the poise of the ballet, the spirit of the festive season and the elegance of Grosvenor House.”

Birmingham Royal Ballet Chief Commercial Officer, Paul James says, “The Nutcracker is a magical, classic ballet and we are thrilled to be bringing our production to London this December.

“From the pastries and delicate sandwiches, to the Park Room ambiance with resident pianist, the scene perfectly complements the essence of the Nutcracker.”
